National Scouting Office seeks volunteers to promote scouting

NASHVILLE, Tenn.––The United Methodist Office of Scouting Ministries is looking for volunteers to help New Mexico and Northwest Texas Conference churches establish and expand scouting ministry opportunities.
After completing successful pilots in other annual conferences, the National Office of Scouting Ministries selected the area as a place where local churches can be encouraged to understand scouting as a ministry to the community and a way to reach unchurched youth and their families.
Volunteer specialists will provide neighboring churches with information about God and Country studies offered by Programs of Religious Activities with Youth (PRAY), training opportunities, resources for Scout Sunday and various awards for young people and adults.
Scouting ministry specialists will also help churches enrich their relationship with existing Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops, packs, crews, and 4-H and Camp Fire USA clubs.
“Too frequently, churches treat troops as if they are just renting space instead of being a vital part of their ministry,” said Larry Coppock national director of scouting ministries. “Fifty percent of the Scouts in troops chartered by United Methodist churches are unchurched and Venturing Crews can expand youth ministries.”
If you wish to register as a scouting ministry specialist, provide the information and mail to the address listed below. If you prefer, you may e-mail this information to LaNisha Sayles at the address below.
