Treasurer's Bond
Each local church buys a treasurer's bond each year through their district office. The coverage limit of the bond is $1,000,000.00
Your church is required to turn in your local church audit to the district office as a condition of this particular insurance. This treasurer's bond is intended to be a supplement to any other type of bonding or officer/director insurance. Check with your trustees and/or your local insurance agent as to what coverage your church has in this area. You will then need to determine if your coverage is adequate or not.
Any amount of insurance will not prevent employee fraud or misuse of funds. Any system of internal control will not guarantee that an employee won't commit fraud. A good system of internal control used properly and regularly (monthly) will be able detect misuse of funds, etc.
Go to this link http://www.gcfa.org/TipsPreventMisuseFunds.pdf and print out this document and have all your employees, finance committee members, and whoever else you think necessary sign this document (at least once a year).
This will indicate that this document has been read and understood by all who signed it. The final step in this process is to monitor regularly the internal control system.
