Safe Sanctuaries

SAFE SANCTUARIES

Safe Sanctuaries is a program of The United Methodist Church that calls for each local church to be in ministry with everyone. Our churches must not allow risks to undermine or stop our ministry. We must acknowledge the risks and develop a practical plan to reduce them; take steps to prevent harm to anyone in our church; and to continue to answer the gospel's imperative to be in ministry with everyone, making a difference in their lives.

All local churches within the Northwest Texas Conference are required to have a Safe Sanctuary Policy for their church by December 31. 2008.

If you are not currently running background checks on your local church workers (volunteers and paid staff) you should be. The Conference Center is currently using LexisNexis (formerly known as Securint). The cost for a basic background check for churches signing up now is $10.00 per person. There is not a monthly fee. You will need to provide either the local church's Articles of Incorporation or the 501 (c) (3) ruling from the IRS. You can obtain this paper from the General Council on Finance and Administration by calling 1-866-367-4232. If you would like more information please contact LexisNexis Account Manager, Scott Revah,
