First United Methodist Church (www.fumcolton.com) of Olton, TX, is seeking a part-time Director of Youth Ministry, who will reach, lead, and support students as they grow and develop as Disciples of Christ beginning around August 1, 2018. This would be ideal for a college student who would be willing to drive in on weekends and Wednesdays.
The purpose is to minister to the youth of our church and community in grades 6-12 and to administer, develop, and implement youth ministry programs designed to meet the spiritual, social, and emotional needs of the students.
Requirements and Responsibilities
-Committed Christian with a heart to lead students
-Have some experience with leading youth
-Demonstrate knowledge about how to plan and execute a youth ministry program
-Plan, Teach, and Execute a Wednesday night Youth Program
-Pray for Students
-Establish relationships with students and invest time in their lives
-Communicate with pastor and parents and other Important people of the Church
-Develop relationships with parents
-Get students signed up for summer camp at Ceta Canyon and attend camp with them
-Manage Youth Account
-Plan and execute fundraisers for the Youth Account
-Provide opportunities for students to serve the church and the community
-Manage Youth Instagram account and Facebook Page for communication

The communication assistant at Aldersgate UMC will attend to the needs of the main office of the church and contribute to coordination of overall communication within the church. The assistant will work at least 25 hours per week, flexible between Monday-Friday and hours between 8:30-4:30 p.m. The assistant will report to the director of connections and communication, Lisa Alexander (who reports to the associate pastor of Aldersgate UMC, Rev. Amy Wilson Feltz).
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
• Answer phones, receive people in the main office of the church and tend to general
office responsibilities. (This includes booking weddings, receptions and special events.)
• Assist the director of connections and communication with coordinating the communication needs of the church, including the weekly production of the Aldersgate In Action (bulletin and newsletter printed piece), updating the website, and preparing digital communication, such as email, social media posts, text messaging, etc.
• Design graphics for weekly sermons and other communication needs (such as ministry events, worship services and mission field activities).
• Assist groups (Sunday School classes, the United Methodist Women, the Ushers) with any communication needs, such as sending cards and emails for notices about meetings and schedules, etc.
• Maintain the church’s membership database by processing the Sunday morning welcome cards each Monday, making note of baptisms, membership changes, births, deaths, etc.
• Coordinate with the pastors and the Staff Parish Relations Committee to distribute, collect and file all Human Resources paperwork for job applicants and current employees.
Goals and Objectives
• To greet each person on the phone, via email and in person warmly and with a willingness to help address that person’s needs or to find someone on the staff who can do so.
• To assist in coordinating the communication of a central and unified message that clearly expresses how every ministry and outreach opportunity at Aldersgate UMC supports the mission of raising up deeply devoted disciples of Jesus and that invites people to participate in that mission.
• To design sermon and information graphics that visually communicate the theology of Aldersgate UMC and support the mission.
• To help the staff stay connected through consistent and clear communication about what is on the church calendar and the processes required for scheduling events, booking rooms, etc.
Qualifications and Expectations
•Possess a deep and growing love for God and others. A desire to grow into Christlikeness.
•Meet one-on-one with the director of connections and communication each week. •Participate in weekly worship design and staff meetings.
•Join Aldersgate as a member and participate in the life of the church.
•Make a commitment and effort to maintain reconciled relationships with other staff members.
•Join the rest of the staff and congregation in completing an estimate of giving card each year (and make every effort to fulfill that commitment to God and the church).
•Any and all other responsibilities as assigned.
•An associate’s degree(required), bachelor’s degree(preferred).
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, layout and graphic design and database management (required).
•Customer service and organizational skills.
•Three years of working experience, preferred.

JOBS OUTSIDE NWTX
The Director of Youth Ministries has primary responsibility within our church family for providing 6th through 12th grade students opportunity to initiate and/or deepen their relationship with God. The Director must have a deep faith in Jesus Christ and be committed to the United Methodist Church. He/she must have the ability to administer a growing, multifaceted youth ministry, an ability to share leadership with others, and be committed to personal growth in Christ and the ability to share that faith with others.
+ Resources: The Director is responsible for all Youth Ministry resources, including physical facilities, group dynamics, leadership, curricula and communication. The Director manages the budget for youth ministries. Priority should be given to the creation of a welcoming, safe space - physical, corporate, and spiritual - where youth and ministry volunteers may encounter God and grow in their faith.
+ Communication: The Director serves as the Youth Ministries contact person for FUMC, accessible to all involved in youth ministries, promoting and publicizing youth ministries through print, digital, social media and other forms of communication, and ensuring that the Youth ministries are congruent with FUMC’s mission.
+ Volunteer management: The Director develops and guides the Youth Council, which should include youth and adults (including parents), chairs the YC planning meetings, and leads the YC to continually improve youth ministries. The Director recruits, qualifies, and trains teachers and adult sponsors for all youth classes, instilling excellent leadership for youth events. Most importantly, the Director will ensure that our Safety Policies are followed, taking immediate action if they are ever violated, reporting such violations to the Sr. Pastor or Assoc. Pastor.
+ Ministry development: The Director is responsible for 1) leadership of the youth ministries, 2) the revitalization of ministries as needed, 3) regular evaluation of ongoing ministries’ effectiveness, 4) the development of new ministries to meet changing needs of our youth, and 5) leadership of mission and service ministries.
+ Integrated ministries: The Youth Ministry is not a stand-alone ministry, but one crucial part of the entire church family’s ministries. The Director attends staff meetings, works with the Program Staff to plan and promote ministries that meet the needs of the entire congregation and encourage church growth, assists staff and church committees with daily tasks and special projects related to the Youth Ministry. The Director is liaison to the church staff and various committees as they relate to Youth Ministries, and cooperates on occasional special events.
The Director’s immediate supervisor is the Senior Pastor, and will meet regularly with the Sr. Pastor for discussion of the Youth Program. The Director is also accountable to the Staff-Parish Relations Committee and will abide by the work expectations of the FUMC Personnel Policy and Benefit Handbook.. The Director is also a vital part of the larger staff, and will work closely with all staff members as a team. The Director and Youth Council are partners in the creation of a youth ministry of excellence. At least annually, there will be an evaluation of the Director’s performance by the Sr. Pastor, including program evaluation and goal-setting. This is a salaried position.
Qualifications, Knowledge, and Skills Required:
+ Bachelor’s degree preferred
+ Certification in Youth Ministry preferred, or a willingness to work toward it with the church’s assistance
+ Possess a strong commitment to the Christian faith, a basic understanding of United Methodist theology and church history, and support and encourage the United Methodist tradition
+ Able to effectively operate office machines and operating systems
+ Highly organized, self-motivated, able to work under minimal supervision and multi-task in despite disruptions
+ Ability to use online resources to communicate with youth, parents, staff, the church family and others
+ Strong interpersonal and communication skills
+ Able to maintain confidentiality
+ Able to pass a credit check and a criminal background check
+ Speak fluent English
